WORK WEEK SCHEDULE

Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends) Position is available for a Hybrid Telework workweek

POSITION PURPOSE:

Collects, analyzes, and reports data to support decision-making in the district about schools, programs, and policies designed to improve student outcomes. Develops or revises systems to enhance efficiency, consistency, and speed in addressing both ad hoc and planned requests for data. Provides technical support to others in obtaining, understanding, analyzing, and utilizing data. Collaborates in designing and implementing evaluation projects related to system goals in order to improve student outcomes.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

  • Extensive knowledge of one or more statistical software packages (ex., SAS, Stata, R) and/or Microsoft Office statistical tools(e.g., pivot tables, lookup procedures, complex formulas, merging data sets);
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and Power Point; Google Apps;
  • Considerable knowledge about developing, maintaining, and using datasets of various size and complexity;
  • Strong attention to detail and a fundamental concern for the accuracy of information;
  • Ability to organize large amounts of data, track multiple projects simultaneously, and meet project timelines;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, external agencies, attorneys, parents, and the public.

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in educational research, computer science, social sciences, education, or a directly related field

from an accredited university;

  • Two years of experience in conducting data analyses with statistical software;
  • Experience with descriptive and inferential data analyses;
  • Knowledge of K-12 education data, NC accountability data sets and issues;
  • Experience using data as part of a continuous cycle of improvement process;
  • Experience with training and building the capacity of adult learners to effectively collect, analyze, and use data for school and district improvement;
  • Experience presenting information to a variety of audiences on assessment, evaluation, and research;
  • Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.

 

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

None

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's or Doctoral degree in computer science, social sciences, education, or directly related field from an accredited university;
  • Three or more years of experience in conducting data analyses with statistical software (preferably SAS, Stata, R or SPSS);
  • Experience in conducting qualitative research and analysis;
  • Extensive knowledge of the NC accountability and data systems;
  • Ability to develop web-based forms/dashboards/systems for data collection.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Conducts analysis to provide descriptive and inferential statistics about staff and student outcomes and perceptions (e.g., aggregate summaries, frequencies, rosters, cross-tabulations, means, correlations, regression analyses).
  2. Cleans and manipulates data, merges data files, prepares data loads, and documents analysis programs.
  3. Responds to data requests related to teacher and student outcomes and perceptions of various initiatives from Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) staff, the public, and outside researchers.
  4. Reviews data output thoroughly, identifies data anomalies, and adjusts data, as needed.
  5. Creates charts, graphs, and summaries of results and disseminates the information to central services staff, school administrators, and other school staff.
  6. Develops and implements strategies for making data available to WCPSS staff and the general public, following established processes and protocols to ensure data accuracy and consistency in reporting.
  7. Contributes to research and evaluation projects, applying statistical techniques, as appropriate.
  8. Presents, trains, and consults with department and other WCPSS staff on the appropriate use of data tools and indicators for school improvement, school accountability, or related purposes.
  9. Performs other related duties, as assigned.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, staff members of external funding agencies, and the community. Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion of up to ten pounds of force.
