Role Profile
Driven by our mission to support the safe, lawful, and efficient movement of trade by sea, Lloyd’s List Intelligence delivers data and analysis at the moments that clients need us most. For almost 300 years we have been the go-to partner for maritime intelligence.
In the role of Maritime Data Analyst, you will provide first response to customer queries related to vessel data and methodology, complex ownership structures, sanctions and compliance risks, working closely with other research teams to ensure the queries are answered within agreed SLAs.
The Maritime Data Analyst will primarily investigate company and vessel ownership changes and is expected to gain a broad understanding of Lloyd’s List Intelligence data and products, and most importantly how these benefit our customers. Within the remit of this role there is a key focus on resolving multiple daily client queries and deliver on data quality programmes across several data areas in a timely manner and exploring ways to improve efficiency and processes to increase the timeliness, coverage and accuracy of data delivered to customers.

This is a full-time permanent reporting to the Data Operations Manager.
This role is permanent and offers balanced working with 2-3 days a week in our London or Singapore office.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and respond to inbound customer queries, received through the Ask-the-Analyst service, as well as non-customer and internal requests, ensuring these are handled in an efficient and timely manner, capturing & escalating actionable client feedback.
- Develop a deep understanding of the different customer groups and how they rely on our insight and services.
- Acquire full knowledge of in-house methodology across the Maritime Data Team and be able to articulate this in written responses to internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure customer service SLAs, Data Quality KPIs and daily tasks are consistently met.
- Research and investigate complex datasets, including commercial ownership structures and ultimate beneficial ownership, sanction links and vessel data, becoming a subject matter expert.
- Review and validate AIS tracking data, responding to customer queries on vessel movements.
- Review and update entries within our Geospatial database, including but not limited to Ports, Terminals & Berths, as well as High-Risk Areas.
- Provide quality control of research teams’ output, offer feedback and expertise when needed.
- Identify, proactively escalate and follow-up on issues related to data delivered by our partners.
- Capture web platform & data delivery improvements suggested by our customers.
- Foster collaboration and share information with other in-house data teams, to optimise the quality of our data.
- Proactively suggest process efficiency and methodology improvements, supporting on their delivery within the scope of our COACT data quality framework.
- Keep abreast of emerging market trends and regulatory changes in the risk and compliance landscape, as well as competitor advances in the maritime data market.
- If required, attend client meetings as a subject matter expert alongside sales and product management.
What we are looking for:
Essential
- A customer-first approach with a flexible, can-do attitude, and strong time management skills with an ability to respond to multiple queries and requests within set deadlines.
- At least 1-2 years’ experience in business intelligence, consultancy, or complex data research, relying both on primary and secondary sources, quickly adapting to new subject domains.
- Proven track record of proactively seeking out and validating information, both within and outside of pre-determined source lists, being able to understand to origin & context of data.
- Experience using code and visualisation tools to collate, clean, analyse and visualise datasets, with ability to replicate the process with a new dataset, using minimum manual input.
- Ability to compile training methodology and feedback documents to drive output enhancements is a pre-requisite.
- Strong stakeholder management is required in this role, across all areas of the business.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English.
Desirable
- Experience of resolving complex customer queries, including objection handling.
- Innovative and dynamic approach to problem-solving, with proven success in implementing data, research, and content improvements.
- Software skills in packages that are synonymous with Big Data management, e.g. SQL, Python, and experience using datasets in natural language processing (NLP) would be an advantage.
- Basic understanding of Extract, Transform & Load (ETL) framework.
- Initial exposure to Geospatial data and its management.
- Previous experience of working within the framework of an ISO9001:2015 - certified QMS.
- Experience mapping legal corporate structures and proficiency using corporate registries, as well as comprehensive understanding of complex company ownership structures and financial and legal transactions in the maritime industry would be highly advantageous.
- An established network of contacts in the maritime industry.
- Confident presentation skills for internal and external audiences.
