The Role
We are looking for a Senior Product Data Analyst to become the analytical specialist for our subscriptions and commercial products, working closely with the Commercial Product team in Technology and teams across Digital Subscriptions, Home Delivery, Customer Care and Media Solutions.
This is a senior, hands-on analytics role focused on understanding and improving the full subscriber lifecycle β from acquisition and conversion through engagement, retention, churn and long-term customer value. You will combine strong technical capability with commercial curiosity, turning data into clear recommendations that support better decisions.
You will remain part of our central Group Analytics team, reporting to the Analytics Manager while developing deep expertise in Subscriptions & Commercial. Analytics is your home; Commercial is your specialism.
Responsibilities
- Act as the primary analytical partner for the Commercial product area.
- Develop a clear view of the full subscription funnel, from traffic and paywall interaction through registration, conversion, engagement, renewal, retention and churn.
- Analyse pricing, introductory offers, promotions, vouchers, product mix and acquisition cohorts, considering both immediate conversion and longer-term customer value.
- Help develop actionable measures such as ARPU and Customer Lifetime Value and embed them into ongoing commercial decision-making.
- Use subscriber engagement data to support retention and churn-prevention strategies.
- Own and refine reporting around dynamic paywalls, conversion and other commercial product initiatives, and support teams running tests and experiments.
- Support acquisition and marketing teams with analysis of channels, campaign performance, referral attribution, conversion and customer quality.
- Build and improve Power BI reporting, write SQL, investigate commercial questions directly in the data, and identify gaps in existing datasets or reporting.
- Work with BI Developers, Data Engineers, Product, Technology, Sales and Finance where specialist input is required.
- Proactively identify trends, risks and opportunities and communicate clear recommendations to senior stakeholders.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- A degree in Data Analytics, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics or another relevant quantitative discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- 5+ years of professional data or analytics experience, including experience operating at a senior analyst level.
- Strong Excel & SQL skills and experience working directly with large analytical datasets.
- Strong hands-on experience with Power BI or similar, including developing or enhancing reporting and analytical outputs.
- Strong hands-on experience working with Snowflake or similar as a cloud data platform.
- Experience independently scoping and delivering complex ad-hoc analysis and longer-term analytical work.
- Excellent communication, presentation and data-storytelling skills, with the ability to explain complex analysis to non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to operate independently, challenge assumptions constructively and turn analysis into recommendations.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Experience in a subscription, membership, SaaS, telecommunications, financial services or other recurring-revenue business.
- Experience analysing acquisition, conversion, retention, churn, pricing, offers, ARPU or Customer Lifetime Value.
- Experience with product analytics, commercial reporting or customer lifecycle analysis.
- Experience supporting A/B testing, experimentation or test-and-learn programmes.
- Experience with digital publishing, media or news organisations.
- Experience with GA4, BigQuery, Python or related analytical technologies.
The Opportunity
We are looking for someone who takes ownership rather than waiting for instructions. You should be comfortable taking an ambiguous commercial question, determining the right analytical approach, working through the data and explaining what you think the business should do next.
Why This Role?
This is an opportunity to take analytical ownership of an important commercial domain while remaining part of a broader Analytics team. You will help connect acquisition, conversion, engagement, retention and customer value, and turn those relationships into practical decisions across our subscription business.
If you enjoy working at the intersection of data, customer behaviour, product and commercial decision-making, this role will give you the scope to make a meaningful impact.
If you are excited by content, technology, storytelling and the future of journalism, this is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact while working on challenges that are both technically complex and highly visible.
