The Senior Database Administrator is responsible for updating, monitoring, and troubleshooting development and production environment database servers and associated infrastructure. In addition to ensuring database availability, reliability, and security, the Senior Database Administrator will work closely with other IT professionals to assist with any database related questions and provide guidance on SQL Server best practices.

 

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Support SQL database and servers including performance management, security, installations, upgrades, patches, backup, recovery, space management, performance tuning and capacity planning
  • Responsible for planning, designing, coordinating and administration of SQL Database Server, including database definition, structure, documentation and standards
  • Responsible for database backup and restore functions including scheduled tests of disaster recovery (DR) availability. Requires in depth experience with SQL server High Availability technologies, such as Clustering, Replication and Always-On Availability Groups
  • Monitoring and Performance Tuning; physical server level, database level (database settings and options) and query tuning
  • Develop and establish policies and procedures related to data security and integrity; monitor and limit database access as needed
  • Design, model, and document database schema
  • Develop stored procedures, ad-hoc queries, functions and views
  • Work with IT teams to support various products/applications and assist business users and developers with database-related issues


Additional responsibilities and areas for expansion:

  • SQL Sentry Job monitoring software usage and alert design
  • PowerShell experience to assist with managing common tasks such as server reboots and Availability Group failovers
  • Expertise in designing, validating and implementing projects across the hybrid infrastructure (On-cloud to On-Premise and vice versa)


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Degree in computer science, management information systems, or equivalent is preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of substantive relevant experience required. An ideal candidate will have 5-10 years’ experience in a technical environment, managing very large, complex data sets and database systems
  • In-depth knowledge of SQL Server 2012-2022, TSQL
  • Experience with SSAS, SSMS, and SSRS
  • Experience with Microsoft Clustering, High Availability, Disaster Recovery, Replication and other resiliency technologies
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Able to effectively work independently and as part of a team
