ROCU – COPO Data Analyst and Coordinator - Funded to 31st March 2027

MANAGEMENT VETTING / SECURITY CLEARANCE DESIGNATED POST

The Regional Organised Crime Unit for the West Midlands Region (ROCUWM) is a collaboration between the police forces of Staffordshire, West Midlands, West Mercia, and Warwickshire to reduce the impact of serious and organised crime.

ROCUWM targets areas of criminality that are assessed as posing the greatest regional threats to the people and businesses of the region. Working alongside other UK law enforcement agencies and other partners from both private and public sectors, the ROCU investigates organised crime groups and identifies patterns within serious and organised crime to reduce the harm caused by the offending.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the ROCU on a fixed term contract, funded to end March 2027 to support the delivery of Crime Overseas Production Orders (COPO) on behalf of the region. The Crime (Overseas Production Orders) Act 2019 allows police and prosecutors quicker access to electronic data held outside of the UK, supporting investigations into serious crime. The act gives law enforcement agencies and prosecutors the power to obtain electronic data directly from an overseas communications service provider.

ROCUs have been designated by the Home Office as requesting authorities for their respective regions and so play a key role in the coordination and management of applications, the review/analysis of acquired data and overall audit and compliance.

This role will form part of a small team within the ROCU, reporting to the COPO audit and compliance manager. It will include a range of responsibilities to ensure that the ROCU maintains an efficient and effective end to end COPO process, managing and exploiting data to the greatest effect. West Midlands Police is a Disability Confident Leader - the highest level an organisation can achieve under the scheme run by the Department of Work and Pensions.  As part of our commitment we operate a ‘Disability Confident Interview Scheme’ - all candidates who declare a disability and meet the essential criteria for the role will be offered an interview.

It is important to note that there may be occasions where it is not practicable or appropriate to interview all disabled people who meet the essential criteria for the job. For example: in certain recruitment situations such as high-volume, seasonal and high-peak times, the employer may wish to limit the overall numbers of interviews offered to both disabled people and non-disabled people. In these circumstances, the employer could select the candidates who best meet the essential criteria for the job, as they would do for non-disabled applicants.
