Overview






The purpose of this position is to work with the WPO Research Transition Program Manager to coordinate the Research Transition (R2X) process, including evaluating WPO’s research portfolio and maintaining research project databases, coordinating the development and approval of transition plans for projects intending to transition to National Weather Service operations or other applications, and aligning research priorities with organizational strategic goals. The incumbent will implement new software systems to analyze current and upcoming projects, utilizing Smartsheet software to improve workflow efficiency. Applicants should have extensive database management experience and experience working with others to transition project data.

The NOAA WPO is a programmatic office located in NOAA Research that supports world-class weather research to save lives, reduce property damage, and enhance the national economy by selecting and funding research that supports and fosters collaborations with NOAA’s research laboratories and the weather enterprise (i.e., NOAA, other Federal agencies and entities, state and local governments, academia, and the private sector). WPO’s Programs work closely with the National Weather Services to develop and transition weather research to improve knowledge about tropical cyclones, severe storms, extreme precipitation, air pollution, and social science – and to integrate weather, water, and climate forecasting and mitigation.









Responsibilities






Review outcomes of projects, evaluate research projects and programs, utilize strategic plans to inform future research priorities, and coordinate with research programs on the development transition plans.

  • Coordinate the development and execution of plans to transition research outputs to operations and other applications.
  • Implementation of new software, must be a fast learner.
  • Experience with data visualization.
  • Database management: data analysis, data entry, data review, data migration, in-house system development to feed a mass database.
  • Meeting coordination, training and helping other contractors on the task, collecting their program information and implementing it into one database.








Qualifications

  • BA/BS in meteorology or a related field such as atmospheric science

  • Strong editing and writing skills
  • Ability to translate scientific content into plain language for a variety of audiences

Starting Pay






USD $64,000.00/Hr.
