Position Summary
 

The Principal Data Analyst serves as a senior expert and thought leader within the Center of Analytics, playing a critical role in advancing data-driven strategies that impact population health management, risk adjustment, clinical quality performance, and value-based care outcomes. This individual combines deep healthcare domain expertise with strong technical and communication skills to lead cross-functional analytics initiatives that support enterprise-wide strategic goals.

Reporting to the Director of the Analytics COE, the Principal Analyst partners closely with executive leaders, clinical and operational teams, and technical counterparts to identify insights and opportunities that drive performance improvement, cost containment, and quality outcomes across the delivery system and health plan.


Job Description

  • Leads high-impact, enterprise-level analytics initiatives focused on risk adjustment, quality improvement (e.g., HEDIS, STAR Ratings), care gap closure, and population health strategy.
  • Serves as the lead analytics partner to senior leadership across clinical, quality, operations, and health plan functions.
  • Applies subject matter expertise in risk adjustment (e.g., HCC coding, RAF scores), quality metrics, value-based care, and care management to interpret data trends and influence strategy.
  • Designs and lead the development of advanced dashboards, data products, and executive-level reports that integrate financial, clinical, and operational insights.
  • Translates complex data into actionable insights, driving initiatives that reduce costs, improve outcomes, and optimize risk adjustment revenue.
  • Mentors and guides analysts across the department, fostering development of both technical skills and domain knowledge.
  • Acts as a strategic liaison with data engineering, architecture, and IT teams to ensure optimal data infrastructure and governance to support analytic needs.
  • Leads the design and implementation of predictive or stratification models for identifying high-risk, high-cost, or care-gap populations.
  • Contributes to the development of KPI frameworks aligned with strategic priorities across the organization.
  • Stays current with healthcare regulations, industry trends, and analytics innovation, champion new methods and tools where appropriate.
  • Supports the Director and executive leaders in strategic planning and data-informed decision-making.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Master’s Degree preferred

Experience

  • 8+ years of experience in data analytics or healthcare analytics, with significant focus on risk adjustment, quality, population health, or value-based care.
  • Proven track record developing executive-facing analytics, particularly in complex healthcare or payer-provider organizations.

Knowledge

  • Deep knowledge of HCC coding, risk score methodologies, HEDIS, STAR ratings, and care management programs

Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in SQL and at least one leading BI tool (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Cognos); Python or R a plus.

Abilities

  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills; adept at conveying complex insights to non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead strategic, cross-functional projects with high visibility.
