Position details:

Scope of Services:

• Application Services is looking for a Data Administrator to work with application development teams to determine user data requirements and provide guidance on the creation of logical data models for enterprise information systems.

• They will be responsible for the planning, design, development, security, and integrity of the database environment for Client.

• This includes the development and maintenance of the Department’s enterprise data architecture that will provide the means to promote quality and consistency within the department’s enterprise applications.

• They will document data structures and elements in the enterprise metadata repository, ensuring uniformity of definitions and compliance with existing standards.

• They will become an expert on the meaning and use of the Department’s data and consult with the users on all aspects of this data. They must be able to work effectively with Project Managers, Business Analysts, Data Analysts, and to build efficient, long term solutions in the development of databases utilizing all established departmental standards.

Primary Job Duties/ Tasks:

• This resource will primarily be tasked with representing the Data Administration team to ensure that appropriate standards are followed in the development of data definitions, entity relationships and other logical model components.

1. Promote and support the enterprise data architecture ensuring that new applications and modifications to existing applications use existing architectural elements where possible, and that new elements are consistent and in harmony with the existing structure.

2. Provide an enterprise perspective to application development efforts whether in-house or outsourced to avoid redundancy and encourage reuse.

3. Attend Joint Application Design sessions and other modeling meetings as required in order to create and/or revise Entity Relationship Diagrams.

4. Review and confirm data models.

5. Assist in the development, confirmation and revision of the implementation plan, conversion plan, and the data conversion fall back plan.

6. Assist users and applications personnel in understanding data models and database structures, finding data, and learning how to access the data.

7. Participate in current system data and process modeling sessions.

8. Assist in the review of current system data conditions and exceptions and provide input to the data crosswalks between current and proposed systems.

9. Support the development of conversion program specifications and follow-up data cleansing activities.

10. Enter appropriate information into the Department’s data dictionary and modeling tools, including implementation/physical names for entities and attributes.

11. Promote sharing of data (objects).

Job Specific – Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

1. Knowledge of terminology, concepts and techniques relating to data administration, data dictionaries and data repositories.

2. Knowledge of terminology and concepts of DB2, Oracle SQL Server databases or similar relational databases.

3. Knowledge of JCL, TSO, ISPF and computer programming languages.

4. Ability to perform impact analysis on highly integrated computer systems.

5. Ability to identify and define user’s needs. Ability to design normalized, logical database systems.

6. Ability to accurately estimate time requirements for database conversion tasks and to prioritize, schedule and assign tasks as appropriate.

7. Ability to complete projects on time.

8. Ability to think logically and to analyze and solve problems.

9. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with others.

10. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing and to teach computer related topics.
