We are seeking a Data/SQL Engineer to
join our IT team here at The Butcombe Group during a pivotal phase of our
business analytics journey. This role is foundational focused on integrating
diverse data sources such as Navision, S4 Labour, Acteol CRM, and Procure
Wizard into our central SQL Server warehouse.
You’ll be responsible for building and
maintaining ETL pipelines using SSIS, developing semantic models in SSAS, and
supporting report delivery through SSRS and Power BI.
As part of a collaborative and
forward-thinking team, you’ll help shape the structures that enable data-driven
decision-making across the business. From designing efficient schemas to
enabling API-based data flows and supporting advanced reporting, your work will
directly contribute to strategic outcomes and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
This role is varied with a wide range of responsibilities, the
main responsibilities are:
Data Integration & ETL
- Assist
in building and maintaining ETL pipelines using SQL Server, Azure
Data Factory, and Databricks
- Connect
and ingest data from operational systems (Navision, S4 Labour, Acteol CRM,
Procure Wizard)
- Build
and maintain ETL pipelines using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
- Develop
and manage API integrations for external data sources and services
- Ensure
data quality, consistency, and reliability across ingestion workflows
Data Modelling & Warehousing
- Design
and maintain star/snowflake schemas in SQL Server
- Develop
semantic models using SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS)
- Implement
business logic and aggregations to support reporting and analytics
Reporting Infrastructure
- Support
the development and delivery of reports using SQL Server Reporting Services
(SSRS) and Power BI
- Enable
advanced analytics through calculated columns, measures, and DAX logic
Collaboration & Documentation
- Work
closely with developers, analysts, and stakeholders to understand data needs.
- Document
data flows, schema definitions, and transformation logic.
- Participate
in workshops and feedback sessions to refine reporting capabilities.
- Analyse
competitor loyalty programs and market trends to ensure our programs remain
competitive and innovative.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s
degree in a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Ability
to design and maintain SQL data warehouses
- Knowledge
of SQL Stored Procedures, Indexing, script management & windows functions
- 1+
years’ experience working with a self-service reporting tool
- Good
knowledge of Microsoft Data Analytics Stack: Power BI, SSAS, SSIS, SSRS
- Experience
of Integrating 3rd Party Solutions via an API/Data Transformation process
- Hands-on
experience of secondary tools: Microsoft Azure, Visual Studio, Active Directory
- Hospitality
or Retail sector experience or exposure to systems such as:
- EPOS (Zonal), Labour Management, Table & Events (Collins),
Customer Loyalty program (Zonal)
- Proficiency
in data analysis tools and software such as Excel, Tableau, and other BI tools.
- Strong
analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex
data sets and derive actionable insights.
