Position Description

An Associate Data Analyst (ADA) applies their analytic abilities, basic to intermediate programming skills, and knowledge of clinical data management processes to perform ad hoc data analysis for the purposes of improving data quality. This role will work closely with internal data stewards/analysts and OPTN members to monitor, research and resolve data quality issues and answer data questions. The ADA role will participate in various activities to improve the overall quality of the OPTN data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain automated processes to generate recurring data quality reports.
  • Monitor individual data quality reports as part of EDM’s daily, weekly, and monthly operations.
  • Reach out to OPTN members to review data quality findings and instruct them on remediation steps.
  • Perform data profiling and investigation, as needed, to assist in resolving data questions from OPTN members and internal staff.
  • Partner with policy analysts, data analysts, and IT Service Owners, as needed, to research the root cause of a data quality issue.
  • Partner with IT Service Desk to remediate data quality issues outside the OPTN member’s control.
  • Assist in the development of documentation (e.g., procedures) and training materials (e.g., job aids) for the OPTN data quality program (e.g., data profiling techniques, data validation rule types, and data quality monitoring).
  • Knowledge of OPTN database: Develop and maintain advanced knowledge of OPTN data collection systems and data submission requirements. Continuously learn about upcoming data changes and assess the impact to existing data quality monitoring.
  • Development of Data Quality Reports: Continually use and enhance programming skills (SQL, SQL Server Reporting Service (SSRS), etc.) to identify, research, and resolve data discrepancies; includes independent generation of reports for both internal and external use.
    • Collaborate with data stewards/analysts and seasoned programming staff in IT and Data Analytics teams to identify strategies, programming techniques, and member reporting to improve the overally quality of OPTN data.
    • Develop and maintain an OPTN Data Quality dashboard based upon internal routine monitoring being performed.

Minimum Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in data processing, data analysis, or data quality required
  • Experience writing and executing basic SQL, required.

Critical Skills

  • Proven problem-solving abilities required
  • Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language.
  • Experience working with health data and knowledge of medical terminology strongly preferred.
  • Requires self-motivated, collaborative individual who functions well within a team and can independently manage multiple priorities.
  • Requires critical thinking and analytic skills, attention to detail, and demonstrated ability to perform high-quality work.
  • SQL and Microsoft Office application proficiency is required.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with visual analytics software and generating reports using SSRS is preferred.

Education

  • 4-year degree in data engineering, data analysis, data processing, clinical data management, research, or related field of study, or equivalent work experience required.
