POSITION SUMMARY:
The Sr. Data Engineer is responsible for the department's data value add work, including developing data models, maintaining a data warehouse and analytics environment, and writing scripts for data integration and analysis. This role will work closely and collaboratively with members of the Analytics and Technology teams to define requirements, mine and analyze data, integrate data from a variety of sources, and deploy high quality data pipelines in support of the analytics needs across the enterprise. They will also support the comprehensive Data Warehouse and manage other proprietary systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Recommend and implement improvements to data architecture in support of business workflows.
- Build, operate, and maintain ETL processes that gather data from internal and external systems.
- Model data pipelines in DBT to prepare data for analysis.
- Write internal tools to assist with data cleaning and labeling.
- Adhere to high standards for code quality and testing.
- Clarify data requirements and priorities with other project teams.
- Expose data to internal interfaces and users across the enterprise.
- Configure and maintain servers and databases.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
- 7+ years of experience building and maintaining backend software or services
- 7+ year SQL experience
- 5+ year of experience working with large scale data (1+ TBs, 2B+ rows)
- 4+ years of experience building complex server-side data processing applications, optimizing complex SQL queries at scale
- 3+ years of experience modeling data in relational and columnar databases, building data pipelines using tools like DBT
- 3+ years of experience leading small project teams and mentoring other Data Engineers
- 1+ year building web interfaces a plus
EDUCATION/TRAINING:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience
SKILLS:
- Familiarity with general Finance and Accounting terms and data a plus
- Exposure to building Machine Learning Models in areas like Revenue Forecasting and Optimization strongly preferred
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision while adhering to company policies, legal requirements, and customer specifications
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
