SQL Database Administrator II
As a SQL Ops DBA at Expedia, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and optimizing our 24/7 OLTP database systems. Your expertise in SQL Ops and performance tuning will directly impact our applications’ reliability, scalability and overall performance.
The role is 4 days a week from Sunday to Wednesday (8am to 6pm) as part of global Ops team, providing round the clock support for our mission critical AWS & OnPrem SQL servers.
What you will do:
Performance Tuning:
Monitor database performance, troubleshoot issues and optimize queries.
Identify bottlenecks and optimize database performance.
Collaborate with development teams to optimise database performance.
Implement best practices for indexing, query optimization and caching.
High Availability and Disaster Recovery:
Configure and manage SQL AAG and Windows clusters.
Create and maintain backup and recovery strategies.
Automation:
Implement and enhance database automation processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
Collaboration:
Work closely with cross-functional teams (developers, system administrators and network engineers).
Handling DB related incidents as part of EG’s global incident response team
Strong communication skills and desire to learn.
Who you are:
5+ Years experience as a DBA, with a focus on OLTP SQL Ops
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
Strong proficiency in SQL query optimization and performance tuning.
Familiarity with cloud-based databases (primarily AWS) desirable.
AWS & Microsoft Certifications
PagerDuty & Datadog desirable
