SQL Database Administrator II

As a SQL Ops DBA at Expedia, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and optimizing our 24/7 OLTP database systems. Your expertise in SQL Ops and performance tuning will directly impact our applications’ reliability, scalability and overall performance.

The role is 4 days a week from Sunday to Wednesday (8am to 6pm) as part of global Ops team, providing round the clock support for our mission critical AWS & OnPrem SQL servers.

What you will do:

  • Performance Tuning:

    • Monitor database performance, troubleshoot issues and optimize queries.

    • Identify bottlenecks and optimize database performance.

    • Collaborate with development teams to optimise database performance.

    • Implement best practices for indexing, query optimization and caching.

  • High Availability and Disaster Recovery:

    • Configure and manage SQL AAG and Windows clusters.

    • Create and maintain backup and recovery strategies.

  • Automation:

    • Implement and enhance database automation processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention.

  • Collaboration:

    • Work closely with cross-functional teams (developers, system administrators and network engineers).

    • Handling DB related incidents as part of EG’s global incident response team

    • Strong communication skills and desire to learn.

Who you are:

  • 5+ Years experience as a DBA, with a focus on OLTP SQL Ops

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.

  • Strong proficiency in SQL query optimization and performance tuning.

  • Familiarity with cloud-based databases (primarily AWS) desirable.

  • AWS & Microsoft Certifications

  • PagerDuty & Datadog desirable
