The Opportunity
Relay's commercial relationships depend on trust, and trust depends on transparency. Our clients need to know how their parcels are performing - whether they're arriving on time, where things go wrong, and what we're doing about it.
As a Senior Data Analyst in the Commercial squad, you will provide the analytical foundation for Relay's client-facing operations. Working directly with the Chief Commercial Officer and the wider commercial team, you'll build and maintain reporting that keeps clients informed, investigate performance issues, and provide the data needed for evidence-based conversations with our clients.
This is a reporting-heavy role covering dashboards, regular reporting packs, and ad-hoc analysis across the client portfolio. It also goes beyond producing numbers - understanding what's behind them is a key part of the work. When SLA performance dips or loss rates spike, this role involves finding out why and helping the business respond.
Over time, you'll build a picture of how Relay's network performance translates into commercial outcomes - which clients are at risk, where service improvements would have the biggest commercial impact, and what the data says about where to focus.
Relay operates a centralised data team of around 30 data engineers, analysts, and data scientists, with analysts embedded into squads across the business. You will sit in the Commercial squad with support from the centralised data team, which you'll report into.
What You'll Do
Build and maintain dashboards and reporting packs that track SLA adherence, loss rates, delivery success, and other key metrics across the client portfolio
Investigate performance issues - when a client's numbers deteriorate, work with the relevant squads to identify the root cause and present findings to the commercial team
Provide insights and recommendations alongside data, so stakeholders can act on analysis without needing to interpret raw numbers
Respond to ad-hoc client queries with accurate, timely analysis
Work with the CCO and commercial team to prepare for client reviews, weekly business reviews, and escalations with data-driven narratives
Develop and refine metrics for client performance over time - what "good" looks like may differ by client, service type, or geography
Collaborate across squads (routing, sortation, first mile, last mile) to trace client-level issues back to operational root causes
Identify trends and patterns across the client base that highlight systemic issues or opportunities for improvement
Use your cross-client view to identify where operational improvements would have the most commercial impact - helping the commercial team prioritise which problems to solve and which conversations to have
Work with data engineering to ensure commercial data pipelines are reliable, timely, and fit for purpose
What We're Looking For
Experience connecting data analysis to strategic and commercial decisions
Able to step back from individual analyses and identify broader patterns - what's a one-off issue vs a systemic problem, which clients need attention before they escalate, where the biggest opportunities sit
Experience with high-volume, repeatable reporting and attention to detail
Experience moving between structured reporting cycles and reactive, ad-hoc requests
Experience presenting data to different audiences, including adapting format and detail for non-technical stakeholders
Experience ensuring analysis is communicated and easy for recipients to act on
Background in identifying issues in data and raising them early
Experience with SQL and BI/data visualisation tools
At least 5 years experience as a data analyst or in a similar role, ideally with some exposure to commercial, client services, or logistics
Experience presenting findings to senior stakeholders or in client-facing settings
A track record of delivering accurate, timely analysis in a client-facing or commercial context
