Position Overview

Performs crime and intelligence analysis by collecting, evaluating, and disseminating criminal intelligence to identify crime trends, support investigations, guide operational decision-making, optimize resource deployment, and enhance crime prevention and case clearance efforts. 

Position Functions

  • Prepares daily, weekly, and monthly analytical reports to identify crime series, emerging crime patterns, and trends. Identifies crime trends and patterns and disseminates timely intelligence regarding those findings. Prepares crime forecasts as applicable.
  • Gathers and analyzes information related to criminal activity through public records, CJNet, law enforcement databases, open-source intelligence, and other investigative resources. Conducts open-source research, including social media analysis, and assists investigators in obtaining subscriber information, employment records, and other investigative data. Coordinates with outside agencies to obtain additional information as needed.  
  • Maintains proficiency in crime analysis software, geographical information systems (GIS), intelligence databases, mapping applications, and other analytical technologies necessary to support investigative operations. 
  • Maintains current knowledge of criminal methods, emerging crime trends, and intelligence related to criminal activity, including burglaries, vehicle thefts, organized crime, and other criminal enterprises. Collects and disseminates intelligence from departmental personnel, outside law enforcement agencies, citizens, informants, and information developed during City events, as appropriate.
  • Serves as a member of the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office Real Time Crime Center Task Force by providing analytical support during in-progress incidents and other investigations that would benefit from real-time analytical resources. 
  • Establishes and maintains intelligence files on known criminals, known associates, criminal organizations, and other persons or groups of investigative interest. Adheres to the guidelines of criminal intelligence files within the department’s policy and 28 CFR Part 23.
  • Prepares comprehensive criminal background investigations by integrating information obtained from multiple law enforcement, public, and intelligence sources.  
  • Assembles, compiles, and presents data using graphs, charts, and other statistical information as requested by Command Staff, other city departments/divisions, and/or the public. 
  • Creates a variety of reports (RAMP, Quarterly Investigations Division Report, Public Statistics Requests, Weekly Snapshot, Spatial Analysis) as required. Prepares crime maps as required. Testifies in court when required. 
  • Uses mapping technology to aid in identifying high-crime areas related to homeland security, criminal activity, or other investigative support. Conducts monthly audits of the police department’s FUSUS activity. 
  • Travels to various work locations, including the Seminole County Real Time Crime Center, and attends intelligence meetings as available, including but not limited to RAMP, the Seminole County Intelligence Meeting, Orange County Gang Intelligence Meetings, and the Central Florida Intelligence Exchange Intelligence Meeting.
  • Maintains availability for call-outs in rotation with the Seminole County Real Time Crime Center scheduling process.
  • In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential and may be required to perform duties outside of their normal job description.
  • Complete required trainings as specified within the City Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Social Sciences, or a closely related field.
  • Valid driver's license.  Must obtain a State of Florida driver's license within thirty (30) days of employment.
PREFERABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A master’s degree in a related field and previous experience in crime analysis, criminal intelligence, GIS, crime mapping, statistical analysis, or related analytical disciplines is preferred.

Supplemental Information

The selection process for positions in the Altamonte Springs Police Department will include Drug Testing and a Truth Verification Examination/Computer Voice Stress Analysis (CVSA); an in-depth Background Investigation to include a Level 2 nationally fingerprint-based records check; and successful completion of the CJIS (Criminal Justice Information Services) Security Clearance process to include approval for controlled access to protected information.
 
Driving history for the past three (3) years must reflect no violations of a driving related felony offense, or driving under the influence (DUI) which includes both drugs and alcohol, reckless driving, or hit and run involving an occupied vehicle or attended property, or an accumulation of traffic violations, plus three (3) points for each attendance at driving school (regardless of whether points were assessed against the license) where the penalty points do not exceed twelve (12).
 
Position is considered at-risk for exposure to Hepatitis B during performance of regular duties. An acceptance/declination of vaccination form is required.
