JOB TITLE:   

Data Analyst, Research & Economic Development

JOB PURPOSE:   

The Data Analyst plays a crucial role in supporting data-driven decision-making processes within designated areas. This position involves collecting, analyzing, and interpreting complex data sets to provide actionable insights that contribute to strategic goals and objectives. The Data Analyst collaborates with various departments/stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely reporting, assesses data quality, and contributes to the enhancement of data management practices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Gather and compile data from various sources, including department/research information systems/records, surveys, literature and/or external databases.
  • Assist with the design, development, and assessment of surveys and data collection techniques to meet the needs of the assigned project and the community.
  • Ensure data accuracy, completeness, and integrity through regular validation and cleaning processes.
  • Utilize statistical methods and data analysis tools to analyze trends, patterns, and correlations in the data.
  • Interpret findings and provide actionable insights to support department/research decision-making.
  • Develop and generate quality reports for internal/external stakeholders, presenting data in a clear and understandable format.
  • Format data and develop dashboards and visualizations to communicate complex data effectively.
  • Collaborate with academic departments, administration, and other stakeholders to understand data needs and requirements.
  • May work with IT professionals to ensure seamless integration of data sources and systems.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of data governance policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and maintain data quality standards, identifying and addressing discrepancies.
  • Conduct research on industry trends, benchmarks, and best practices related to data analytics in specified research area.
  • Apply insights to improve data analysis methodologies and reporting practices.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

Education:  Bachelor's relevant field

Experience:  3-4 years of work-related experience 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Strong Analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Experience interpreting business requirements and reporting requests
  • Experience with statistical analysis tools, databases and other software programs including proficiency in Excel
  • Experience creating insightful reports to aid university leaders in data-driven decision-making
  • Proven experience in data collection, analysis, and interpretation, preferably in a similar role
  • Familiarity with current industry trends, benchmarks, and best practices related to data analytics and research
